As with many capital cities in Asia, Bangkok in Thailand is a very chaotic place although, unlike some of the other cities in the region, there does seem to be some attempt at organisation amongst the chaos. You will experience this sort of chaos immediately after arriving in the country, as you will almost certainly be flying into the main airport in Bangkok.
Once you have left the airport you will find that the streets are busy and crowded with not just cars, but people pushing various goods, tuk tuk drivers as well as street food vendors selling all sorts of strange foods from fried scorpions to many other sorts of bugs.
You will also find that the city is a very intense smell as you will find the pollution blends with the incense and spices being sold on every street corner. Altogether this makes the city is strange and charming place where you will find ancient culture right alongside the modern world. You will see a large skyscraper that has been constructed next to an ancient temple.
There is just as much contrast when it comes to shopping in Bangkok, and one moment you will find yourself browsing fake Gucci watches, and the next you will be at a stall selling woodcarvings of ancient designs.
It used to be the case that Bangkok was a destination for travellers with a bit of experience, but in recent years it has become a much more friendly destination for those who don’t have much experience travelling.
It is now even possible to come to the city with a family as there are plenty of activities and accommodations targeted towards this group. It can also be a great destination for the elderly as the city is easy to get around with numerous taxis. The city is also immensely affordable.
